January 1990 | Chuska Energy well No. 8 in the Black Rock field in northeastern Arizona, Apache County. Chuska drilled the No. 8 well to a total depth of 5940 ft in the Pennsylvanian Molas Formation. The No. 8 produced 3560 barrels of oil and 1.02 billion cubic ft of natural gas from the Pennsylvanian Paradox Formation before it was plugged in October 2005. The well sits at the northern base of Chezhindeza (Black Rock) Mesa, a part of the laccolithic intrusive complex of the Carrizo Mountains. The cliffs below the well in sunlight are formed by the Jurassic Entrada, Bluff, and Salt Wash Sandstones. (Photo by Steve Rauzi.)
