View upstream near River Mile 194 (downstream from Lees Ferry) of an old channel of the Colorado River filled with an outburst flood deposit. The channel is seen in the center of the photograph between two buttresses of Cambrian Muav Limestone (far left and shadowed cliff on right). It has a concave up shape and is filled with the debris released when a lava dam failed catastrophically within the last 830,000 years. (Photo by Wayne Ranney)
