ca. 1857-1888 | Grand Canyon, Arizona.
Historic stratigraphic cross section of the Grand Canyon west of the Little Colorado River by J.S. Newberry. Newberry was a member of the Ives expedition (1857-1858) and was the first geologist to see the Grand Canyon. He was an avid paleontologist and described the fossils of the Kaibab at Diamond Creek; Newberry later became the Chair of Paleontology and Geology at Columbia College, now Columbia University.
