09/2012 | Southwest of Holbrook, Navajo County, AZ | Buckled and broken Coconino Sandstone is evident at the surface due to subsidence related to dissolution of salt in the underlying Corduroy Member of the Schnebly Hill Formation of the Permian Sedona Group. Dissolution of salt at depth in this region has resulted in numerous “evaporite-karst” sinkholes, dolines, or depressions. (Photo by Joe Cook)
