April 2013 | A stack of Cambrian-age Tapeats Sandstone on Precambrian Vishnu Schist at Monument Canyon in Arizona’s Grand Canyon. Separating the Tapeats Sandstone (~ 525 MA) from the Vishnu Schist (~ 1,700 MA) lies The Great Unconformity reflecting ~ 1.2 billion years of missing rock record. Accessed via the Tonto trail, Monument Canyon is about 10 miles west of Indian Garden and the Bright Angel trail. (Photo by Nyal Niemuth)
