11/2008 | Upper Verde River, Yavapai County, AZ | Weathering patterns of exposed Cambrian Tapeats sandstone reveal attractive exposures of coarser pebble-rich beds in an otherwise medium to coarse-grained sandstone outcrop. During deposition, higher energy (higher velocity) flow would have been required to transport the coarser pebbles. As flow energy waned the pebbles dropped out of transport and were subsequently buried by successive deposits. (Photo by Joe Cook)
